Miley Cyrus thrilled fans – and surprised Nashville Star judge Jeffrey Steele – when she made an impromptu appearance at a fund-raiser over the weekend in memory of Steele’s son, who died last year.

Steele’s 13-year old son Alex LeVasseur, an avid skateboarder, was killed in an ATV accident in 2007, a tragedy that inspired his family to create The Alex LeVasseur Fund. On Sunday, Steele and his family presented the second annual Alex LeVasseur Memorial Skate Festival at Jim Warren Park in Franklin, Tenn., to benefit the fund – complete with a star-studded concert.

Grammy winner Michael McDonald performed, followed by Steele himself. Just two songs into his set, Steele surprised the audience by introducing Billy Ray Cyrus, who performed “Achy Breaky Heart” and a bluesy version of “Amazing Grace.”
But it was Steele who was shocked when Miley bounded out onto the stage, and asked if she could perform “Simple Song,” originally recorded by Miley and the only song written by Steele that was on his son Alex’s iPod when he passed away.

“When Jeffrey introduced Miley, all the kids who had been skating in the park next to the concert just rushed the stage,” said an observer. “She was so full of energy, she just looked adorable. Jeffrey was clearly very touched by her appearance.”

Miley then told Steele that her favorite song of his was “Hollywood Girl” and asked him to sing it with her. He said he would wing it because, “Miley might live in Hollywood, but in her heart, she’ll always be our Tennessee girl.”

Yesterday, Miley took over Ryan Seacrest’s show and guest hosted America’s Top 40. I got to listen to most of it and she makes a great host!

How great and amazing are these pictures of Miley Cyrus making a music video for her new song “7 Things”!! Miley’s new album entitled “Breakout” is being released on July 22nd. The first single, “7 Things,” was one of the most added at U.S. top 40 radio outlets last week. It is also enjoying some airplay at adult top 40 stations.

On “7 Things” Miley is taking aim at an ex who won’t apologize. She says, “And when you mean it, I’ll believe it / If you text it, I’ll delete it.”

Miley Cyrus has been through a difficult weeks since her Vanity Fair photo flap – but now she’s back to doing what she does best: Sing , dancing and entertaining.

In her new tune, “7 Things” – which debuted Tuesday on the radio show Elvis Duran and the Morning Zoo – the 15-year-old describes the pain of a recent breakup. In the chorus, she runs through a laundry list of all the things she “hates” about her ex: “You’re vain, your games, you’re insecure/You love me, you like her/You make me laugh you make me cry.”
